![]() Having to bind yourself to a covenant so strict that no word of anything you know to be un-true can ever pass your lips sounds rough, even for a Paladin. ![]() So while a Paladin might generally avoid sarcasm because they tend to have a strict adherence to both the letter and the spirit of the law or believe in some philosophy like "little sins lead to bigger ones" (or out of a sense of politeness), they might also justify sarcasm to themselves with logic like "everyone can TELL that I'm being sarcastic so they know I mean the opposite of what I said, and since language is about communication the INTENT comes across as truthful even if the words don't", etc etc etc. ![]() So I guess Lien being sarcastic does not count as lying, as far as paladin oaths go?I didn't get the impression that the oath was a kind of magical compulsion, more of just like a promise and it's then up to the individual to keep it.
